Its been a long time coming, but finally Lapa has somewhere you would want to stop and spend some time that doesn't involve large amounts of beer and caipirinhas. Bonde Sucos takes its name from the rattling, bone-shaker tram (bonde) that creaks its way along the aquaduct above, and provides quite the spot for a little breakfast recovery or an afternoon açaí. Starting with the former, the Bonde Lotado breakfast (R$28.90) should easily provide enough sustenance for a pair of significant hangovers. Plates of toast, jam, scrambled eggs, fruit salad, yoghurt and granola accompanied by the all important pot of coffee and juice might not set the world alight, but they'll sure please an empty stomach.
Alternatives include waffles (from R$8), omelettes (R$10.90-$13.50) and the lunch menu even offers a half-decent caesar salad. Obligatory cheese burgers (R$18.90) are satisfyingly chunky and the sandwich selection is pretty comprehensive (R$11.90-$17.90). The all important açaí is served up creamy in a bowl (R$8.90) or 300ml cup (R$4.90), but if there is nothing else for it that the hair of the dog, then an ice cold Bohemia (R$4) or even a Leffe (R$6.90) will hit the spot. The wi-fi is also pleasingly fast and the seating plentiful, so a leisurely stop off and re-group is certainly encouraged.
