The mandate for this cultural centre in Cinelândia is to encourage and facilitate the povo's (people's) access to diverse forms of cultural expression, and as such it is home to a rich variety of exhibitions, film screenings, plays, seminars and lectures. Formerly the House of the Supreme Court until 1960, original furniture from the '20s remains and, along with the building's architecture, is an attraction in itself thanks to the enormous entry doors, the wrought-iron stair rails, stained glass windows and beautiful floor tiles adorning it. The interactive exhibition charting 500 years of the Brazilian justice system is an educational highlight.
