Since the 1940s, number 60 Rua Lavradio has been selling collectible pieces of 1950s-onwards furniture from its upstairs showroom, somewhat scruffier than elegant neighbours like Mercado Moderno but no less enjoyable or rewarding for a thorough perusal. Original Venezuelan mirrors (R$4,000) outshine the numerous copies in some of the nearby shops, and there are piles of books to sift through, along with clocks, paintings and photographs. The lighting is also noteworthy, including a Sputnik (R$3,000) with its space station / underwater mine spikes and an adjustable-armed medusa-like ceiling affair (R$2,500) perfect for anyone with sextuplets keen to start reading after dark.
