A rich part of the city's cultural fabric since 1966, the growth of Shopping Leblon mall next door has also given a new lease of life to what was, for much of the last decade, something of a forgotten treasure. In need of a serious facelift, it reopened in 2009 with a production of Hamlet featuring the star of Tropa De Elite, Wagner Moura, and immediately found its way back into the hearts of theatregoers. With capacity of close to one thousand since the restoration, it is one of the most important modern venues in town.
