Vegetarians can finally shout about an all-you-can-eat (rodizio) buffet of their own thanks to the magical Refeitório Orgânico, quietly tucked away in between Botafogo's thundering main roads. At the end of a long alley, Buddah awaits, guarding the airy downstairs a la carte restaurant and pointing the way upstairs to where one of the biggest meat-free buffets in the city spreads along three sides of the cosy dining room.
Start with one of several unusual juice combinations (all R$5) and cast an eye over the rich variety of freshly made dishes that surround the hushed tables. The Vivo blends orange, pineapple, ginger and chlorophyll, and the earthy orange, carrot and beetrot Surfista is almost gazpacho-like, though soup fans should head to the miso for a better way to get the juices flowing. From there, the veggie sushi bar is something to behold, and no gimmicky after-thought, either. Wasabi, sliced ginger and soy sauce all add to the pleasing attention to detail, and the spring rolls have their own wonderfully tangy fruit sauce.
The agony of choice then really begins. Mini-burgers and kebabs to one side, bubbling dishes of yakissoba, creamed plantain and moqueca stew to the other. Huge salads are of course present and correct too, but the array of miniature pasteis with fillings like corn and aubergine, a creamy hummus and crisp breads make it well worth a slow, steady approach to proceedings. On the off-chance you have room, the dessert selection (all R$4) covers brownies, apple strudel and creamed papaya.
