This charming spot in the heart of Botafogo is the Matriz group's very own pub, as traditional as the neighbourhood in which it resides. The beer comes fast and cold, the waiters are amiable and the general atmosphere is as carioca as they come. A small outdoor terrace is the spot to opt for when things are too steamy to be indoors, but the upstairs is equipped with pool tables and more space for when, as is more often the case than not, things below are getting a touch cramped. The Sunday feijoada and accompanying roda de samba is well worth a visit from 1pm, with entry R$10 or R$19 with some lovely pork and bean stew sustenance thrown in.
