In a city where the spices and flavours of India are scarce, Orienthai is a precious find. The food may come pre-packaged, but once the film is peeled back and the first waft of piping-hot tikka massala hits, all is quickly forgiven. Choose from hitherto unavailable dishes like the Gaeng Phet Gaa Sai, a red curry with chicken that, although 'spiced' according to the menu, deserves a sachet of the hot sauce (don't forget to order a couple of extra for R$0.50 each) for some serious kick.
The chicken Murg Mangalore (R$27) does come with sliced chilli and rich flavour as standard, however, while the likes of seafood Pad Thai and vegetarian dishes including Aloo Gobi and Saag Aloo provide a good variety of choice. Not the most authentic curry this side of Brick Lane, then, but just seeing side dishes like Basmati rice, onion bhajis and naan breads on a Rio menu can't help but raise a smile for those in need of a straightforward curry hit.
