In business for over 135 years, Lamas is an interesting slice of old-style Rio. The waiters are all in white and bow-tied, but the vibe is far from formal. An original gathering spot for journalists, politicians and intellectuals, it moved to its current location in 1976 but the old charm lives on. Now a favourite of the late night crowd with its flexible opening hours, the food menu is extensive if unremarkable, and the prices certainly don't have any misty-eyed nostalgia for a bygone age, though most portions will easily feed two people.
