The lovingly restored Casarão Ameno Resedá on the corner of Rua Bento Lisboa could kickstart something of a regeneration frenzy in an area filled with numerous similar examples of glorious, original architecture slowly turning to ruin. Opening as part restaurant, part live music venue, the brasserie is elegantly steered by Frech chef Frédèric Monnier, a wonderfully spacious dining room that hosts a hotly-tipped feijoada (pork and bean stew) and samba session on the last Sunday of every month. Musically, the best of Brazil is at the heart of the programming, with greats like Elsa Soares having already graced the stage and pagode jazz, samba and mpb all well represented throughout the week.
