After a successful stint in São Paulo, Portella Bar has branched out and now occupies a crucial spot in Santa Teresa. Empty for months since the former bakery closed, this corner of Largo de Guimarães and the main row of restaurants and bars in Santa is all the brighter for its new addition, even if it is a little cleaner than the lovely, ramshackle regulars. Already attracting a decent crowd since opening in October 2011, bottles hang from the ceiling and the place has an elegant but hippy-ish vibe, and while the famous Santa Teresa tram is suspended until 2013, those who make it up the hill will be rewarded with a superior selection of cocktails and tasty menu of Brazilian bar snacks. There is a wide selection of cachaças available too for the discerning drinker.
