The Hipódromo, named after the racecourse across the road, may have been usurped as the number one bar in Baixo Gávea by Braseiro across the road, but as the regular crowds attest, its still a great place for a night out. There isn't a lot of difference between the two either; the clientele is the same, the menus are similar, the decor equally nondescript and the vibe in both places is young, hip and informal. The Hipódromo, however, is bigger, not quite as noisy and has air-conditioning.
