There’s not an awful lot that is Irish about this place, leaning as it does more towards the American sports bar feel than authentic Irish pub, but that doesn’t mean Shenaigans is without its unique charms. Some of those are kitsch nonsense like the fake books lining the shelves and the rotation of unlikely bands (from beardy old rockers to fresh-faced pop wannabes) that sandwich themselves under the dartboard, others are the pints of Heineken and Guinness, cheap pool and satisfyingly stodgy food.

The barmaids seem to number in the dozens at any given time of the evening so you’ll never have to wait too long for a top up, but the pay point remains strangely understaffed, making the paying and leaving a torrid process at mass-exit closing time. The smoking balcony has now closed so its downstairs for the puffers, leaving the rest to enjoy copious amounts of ESPN-related activities, with the ice hockey and NFL games always well supported.
