Dancers flock to Lapa 40 graus (40 degrees) for an opportunity to show off their skills, in the tradition of the finest gafieiras (dancehalls) of the city - unpretentious and full of atmosphere. There is plenty to recommend it as a venue for those of the two left feet persuasion too, with pool tables on the second floor, regular live shows - often of the samba variety but forró and MPB make appearances here too - and there's a VIP area on the third floor. One of those Lapa staples, along with Carioca da Gema, Democráticus and Rio Scenarium, that just keeps drawing the crowds in to dance until the sun comes up on the street outside.
I don't know what it is about this place, but everyone's so friendly there and it's impossible not to enjoy yourself in that atmosphere. The cocktails are fantastic and the live shows are loads of fun. I made couple of friends there on my last visit, we became friends while they taught me how to dance. I'd go to Lapa 40 Graus every night if I could :)

I am researching things to do while we vacation in Rio, and being someone most certainly of "the two left feet persuasion", Lapa 40 graus sounds like the perfect night spot for me.

Great music and a great place to dance the night away. This is a top hangout in the area.
