The refrigerator says it all about Bar Brasil; old-school, dependable and cool. More than a metre across and two high, this wooden beast may not date right back to the 1907 opening of the bar, but along with the wooden floor and bronze chopp beer barrel it surely could. An anglo-germanic menu hosts a lot of meat and beer, and the smoked pork and sausages are the house speciality. Lunch specials like steak and fries are cheap and quick and the smoked chicken is outstanding. Kick back at a window table and imagine yourself among Lapa's poets, artists and writers in the '40s or '50s as the fans overhead keep the heat at bay.
