The lunchtime buffet is the stuff of legend at Nik Sushi. Found on the hippest street of Rio's hippest neighbourhood, its Ipanema location has no doubt played its part in spreading the gospel, but the breadth of choice inside the relaxed restaurant one block from the beach hasn't exactly hindered progress either. There is a menu, but few bother to read it. Day or night the all-you-can-eat option is the choice to take, in buffet form with daily specials like barbecued anchova fish to supplement the sushi and yakisoba, and rodizio from early evening. That means ticking the boxes on your order form next to the dishes that sound most appealing and they'll just keep coming. Over-order, however and, striking a welcome blow against waste, you get charged for each piece left on your plate. For best results, team with a kiwi fruit caipisaque (a caipirinha made with sake instead of cachaça) and take a very long time over dinner.
