The city's 2010 addition to the cinema circuit stands proudly in an uncommonly beautiful location on the banks of the Lagoa when most multiplexes make do with the dusty top floor of the shopping malls spread across town. Cinépolis had the honour of hosting the world premiere of the animated adventure Rio at the start of 2011, and offers a little bit of style with your popcorn; out front a bar serves chopp either as a pre-film loosener or post-film accompaniment to a dissection of the movie, Cristo Redentor resplendant in view across the water.
