A Copacabana institution since it opened in 1957, over 100 different bar snacks fill the counters at Adega Pérola, taken to the hearts of locals (including legendary carioca musicians Beth Carvalho and Nelson Cavaquinho) over the years. That it has retained the indefinable bohemian magic all this time is testament to the service, the food and the regulars who, upon the bar's sale to new owners in 2011, ensured that all the staff - including the chef of thirty years - were retained.

Of his famous snacks, the polvo marinado (R$18/100g) marinated octopus and the lula apimentada (R$14/100g) squid dishes are remarkably succulent joys, served with a basket of bread and best enjoyed with a Therezópolis beer. The brave might be tempted by a mug of Farroupinha wine (R$5) or one of over thirty types of cachaça, most of which will likely need a little cup of bean stew (R$6) to douse the flames.
