One of the few underground clubs in the touristic heart of Rio, Fosfobox has a fine rotation of red-hot national and occasional international DJs from the carioca funk of Sany Pitbull to the tech-house of Mauricio Lopes. Everything from indie-rock and goth to gay nights also fill the bill, so be sure to check what's on before deciding. The vibe is gritty and industrial despite the addition of a slightly more stylish upstairs bar, so don't expect those trainers to be as white or bright when you come out.
