Part restaurant, part club, either arrive early and have a relaxed dinner and free entry to the after-hours action or join the ever growing lines at midnight as this welcome addition to Urca's limited nightlife grows in stature. Set right by the cable car station at the foot of Sugarloaf, its a great way to round off a bit of sunset tourism, with the midweek house and hip hop events drawing in the crowds of well dressed cariocas.
Having unveiled a new menu at the end of 2011, the chef wears his influences on his white sleeves with the Gordon Ramsey-inspired Torta de frango do Claridges (R$45) - or classic chicken pie - a worthy homage to the London institution. Wednesday nights now offer four courses for R$49 for those after a lingering meal without the prohibitive costs. Friday and Saturday nights see The Dinner Club combine food and DJs to fine effect, but the awkward door policy and compulsory reservations make emailing ahead worthwhile.
