Another beautifully-restored Santa Teresa mansion, this time courtesy of Frenchman Jean-Michel Ruis who keeps a hands-on approach to the running of the hotel and the comfort of his guests. Themed after various flamboyant stars like Carmen Miranda, Picasso and Josephine Baker, the seven rooms are charming and light, offering views across Guanabara Bay and out to Sugarloaf. The shared living room is large and invites interaction with fellow guests, while the small pool with its loungers and sheltered coves is perfect for breakfast (R$45) or an early evening caipirinha. All in all a beautiful oasis of calm high above the bustle of the city.
