Located on the left as you walk in to the grand hall of the Instituto Tomie Ohtake, this shop is far and away one of the most interesting museum shops in São Paulo. Focusing on national design and contemporary artists, the store has an exclusive but varied line of products including jewellery, home décor, bags, toys and clothes. As well as the requisite T-shirts and cool knick knacks, you can also find more upscale pieces by designers such as the contemporary artist Samantha Ortiz, who dyes her clothes by hand. Her ‘Gola Tinta’ dress, which draws its inspiration from origami, is an updated take on hippie-chic.
You'll also find a bookshop – livraria Gaudi – selling books on paintings, sculptures, modern art, and photography. Ponder your purchases over a cup of coffee or the buffet lunch at the institute's restaurant Santinho.
