If Brazil still had a monarchy, Marcos Bassi just might have been granted a knighthood for making butchery a noble craft. Bassi is a meat geek, sharing his near-encyclopaedic knowledge of meat in courses and a regular radio show. The restaurant’s signature dishes include fraldinha (flank steak), as well as bom-bom (a cut taken from the heart of a rump steak). His cuts of meat and other Bassi-branded gourmet products can be bought in top supermarkets across town, but you’ll need to head to Bassi’s home ’hood of Bixiga to taste his cooking.
