Visiting a museum in good company is as rewarding a way as any to spend an afternoon. But lone art excursions are full of different pleasures: namely the chance to discover, in silence, your own true response. Pick up the pace at that dull Old Master, linger on at something unexpectedly gripping, and forget to look clever, absorbed in just looking.
The
MASP, blessed with one of the continent’s finest art collections, is the perfect place to try it, then head for an intimate one-to-one at the museum’s excellent restaurant downstairs, Uni, where lunch is a sprawling, fixed-price buffet. Do a bit more chin-stroking before you tuck in – creamy fish, roast beef, or feijoada? Delicious salads and a table piled high with desserts bookend the hot dishes – see if there’s Eton Mess for afters, crammed with cream, meringue and strawberries, and then do yourself a favour and save some room.
