Lacking the kind of inviting exterior enjoyed by the Copacabana Palace, the lobby of Ipanema's Caesar Park begins to hint at the five-star prices in store with its restrained masculine tones and buffed floors. Its the beachfront location that helps command some of the city's highest rack rates, right on the ever-fashionable posto 9, and the huge 21st floor Imperial Suites has been home to some of the city's most illustrious visitors. All the trappings of a globally-recognised five star hotel are present and correct, including multi-lingual staff, a gym overlooking the ocean and a small, rooftop pool, and they continue across the road onto the sands where staff keep watch over sun loungers, parasols and towels for their guests. Just don't expect to be bowled over by the rooms which, though spacious, aren't exactly going to get the plaudits in the postcard back home.
