The ultra-creative duo behind Juisi by Licquor, one of São Paulo's (now closed) favorite vintage stores saw potential in an abandoned building on Rua Roberto Simonsen in Centro, just a stone’s throw from two of downtown’s historic icons – the Pátio do Colégio and the recently-renovated Solar da Marquesa de Santos. Six months and six dump trucks later, Casa Juisi opened, in December 2011.

Head in through the door of the late-19th-century building (originally the city’s first notary’s office), and up two flights of stairs to a series of rooms that house more than 5,000 items of clothing. Wander from room to room, browsing the impressive collections of military get-up, oriental clothing, denim, and a large space filled with vintage clothes from a number of eras. The bad news? You’ll need to be a fashion, film or music producer to take these clothes away, as they’re for professional hire only.

The good news is that there’s a retail space on the same floor where you can mix and match from the beautifully-crafted racks of second-hand and vintage pieces sourced by the owners Pokropp and Guarnieri. On our visit, we spotted sweatshirt dresses by Norma Kamali and skirts by Oscar de la Renta and Burberry, costing between R$80 and R$290. A small library of books on art, fashion and architecture are also for there for your perusal.

Complete your visit with a nose around the first floor – home to Phosphorus, Maria Montero’s gallery space for budding young art talent, and the ‘waiting room’. This wood-panelled room has already been featured in the film Xingu, by Brazilian screenwriter Cao Hamburger, which was recently screened at the Berlin film festival, as well as being the set for a steamy music video by the paulistano singer Criolo, for his single ‘Freguês da Meia-Noite’.
