In one of Centro's most charming corners and sought after addresses through the Arcos de Teles sits Coccinelle, a casual-yet sophisticated bistrô using an innovative mix of French cuisine with a heavy Japanese influence. A pleasingly strong emphasis on the use of recycled materials pervades including the paper, plastic, glass, demolition wood interior and refurbished antique chairs and the preparation of the dishes also embraces the concept of sustainability; the fresh, organic (where possible) ingredients sourced from local farms and ranches.
Lunch comes neatly packed up in bento boxes in homage to the Japanese workers tradition, the presentation of the lunch tray carefully crafted from the box, little pots, and eye-catching mixes of shapes and colors (possibly deployed to distract from the small portions).
Combinations include the marinated salmon served with tomato gazpacho and mint (R$30) to more Brazilian-feeling offerings (despite being called Bento Jean Pierre) like the beef bourguignonne with homemade chips (R$42). Drinks are generally healthy and fresh like the Japanese green tea with hibiscus (R$5) but French wines from small producers are served by the glass (R$14) or caraffe (R$40) and a wide selection of sakes is also available.
The dessert selection isnt huge, but when it includes knockouts like the pear pie with almond cream (R$12), Tarte Tartine (R$12), and chocolate mousse made with French chocolate there's no need to ask for more.
