Currently one of the most important names in Brazilian design, Herchcovitch has fashion in his blood. His mother taught him to sew at a tender age, and he’d opened his first boutique by the age of 22. The shy designer is known for possessing a business acumen as sharp as his artistic talents.
At his spacious flagship store on Rua Melo Alves – opened in 2011 – Herchcovitch stocks more than just his current collection. Over the years, the maestro has turned his hand to a miscellany of products from glasses to bed linen, adding a designer touch to the offering of retailers such as Tok & Stok, MiCasa and Chilli Beans.
A fan of the macabre, Herchcovitch often incorporates skulls into his clothes, though his Summer 2012 collection at São Paulo Fashion Week brought a vintage feel to womenswear with delicate '40s-, '50s- and 60s-inspired silhouettes, and corsets in beige, pink and light blue tones. The menswear collection featured a touch of the Great Outdoors, with hunting and fishing-inspired coats and jackets.
