A little slice of flower power in the heart of Jardins, Roxane Dreams is like the boudoir-cum-salon of someone who embraced 1960s style the first time around. Incense mingles in the air with Hare Krishna chants and Billy Joel and Beatles classics, and iconic images of Hendrix and Elvis line the walls under beaded chandeliers. And in true Brazilian style, the sales assistants are quick to give a enthusiastic welcome – to the point where it wouldn’t come as the slightest surprise to be offered a cup of herbal tea.
Quirky touches add a sense of fun, such as a frog doorstop that announces your arrival with a loud ‘ribbit’. It’s all clearly a labour of love for the owner and buyer Roxane, who, inspired by her travels around the world, opened the shop fifteen years ago and filled it with her favourite finds from here, there and everywhere; there are lanterns from Morocco, and jewellery and knick-knacks from everywhere from Mexico to London. The predominant inspiration, though, is India with long, flowing dresses, Indian fabrics and ’60s Biba-style puffed-sleeves very much in evidence.
But it’s not all about the boho - there’s enough of an interesting, eclectic mix of jewellery, home furnishings and accessories to add something gorgeous to almost anyone’s style.
