One of the most modern concert halls in Latin America, Sala São Paulo is also an impressive work of architectural rebirth, constructed in a 1938 train station that was originally patterned on the style of Louis XVI. The station’s redesign as a cultural centre and concert hall was carried out with meticulous attention to the acoustic needs of its resident, the Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo (OSESP). After a series of spats and scandals in the classical music world, in 2009, John Neschling, the director of the orchestra since 1997, was replaced by the Frenchman Yan Pascal Tortelier.
