It was Germans who originally popularised beer in Brazil, for which Brazilians will always be grateful. The name of this wood-panelled bar, which has a credible Rhine River feel, translates as ‘loyal friend’, perhaps in homage to that act of sharing – and the businessmen who’ve been coming here since 1967, to relax after a hard day’s work in the city centre, would no doubt agree. Quality draught beer, pastéis and German dishes like Eisbein (pigs’ knee) and Kassler (pork chops) are all on the cards.
