Every Saturday underneath the Perimetral road into Centro, hoards of bargain hunters, collectors and downright chancers hit Praça XV to pour over the tables of goodies lined in the concrete monstrosity's shadow. Plans have been approved to knock the road down and move it underground, so the clock is ticking on this traditional fair where you are as likely to pick up a Second World War tin hat or replica cannon as you are a Brazilian pressing of Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band or a piece of retro furniture. Some of the stalls are definitely more miss than hit, but if you have a Saturday afternoon to while away, it is almost impossible to walk away empty handed, or at least with a smile on your face.
