Rua Pacheco Leão has more than its fair share of funky little nooks and interesting restaurants for a relatively obscure location. Of course it is right besides the Botanical Gardens and on the main route in and out of affluent Horto, so perhaps the clump of class is not so surprising. What was more shocking was the closure of perennial arty favourite Bar da Graça on the corner, its signature plant-pot lights and bright, plastic odds and sods seemingly brought indoors for the last time.

Follwing a slight rejig, the garish colours and boho-chic vibe are back with a bang under the new name Bar do Horto, while the menu of drinks and light bites continues to please. Just try the pasteis de caranguejo (crab parcels, R$25) with a glass of prosecco as the sun goes down, or cool off with an inventive Caipilé cocktail (R$22-$25), which, as the name suggests but you could never predict, is a caipirinha with a difference; there is a Maracujá lolly sticking out of it.
