The unlikely setting of the former Lagoa rowing club provides Rio’s newest music venue, opened in March 2012 with a strong emphasis on Brazilian sounds both old and new and drawing on some of the city’s finest traditions. With space for 300 people seated or 600 standing, Miranda is no shrinking violet, also covering a range of arts beyond the musical including theatre, stand up comedy and weekly debates. As is only fitting there will, of course, be an almighty Sunday feijoada and samba session too. Based alongside the Cinépolis cinema, the view is every bit as good as its neighbour’s, and the restaurant has been carefully considered not to be second to the music, with prices commensurate with the quality and exclusive location.
