Absorb all you can from the 500,000-strong collection of photographs at the Instituto Moreira Salles – a cultural centre named after the Brazilian banker and politician Walter Moreira Salles – then head through to the institute’s store to admire (or purchase even) the prints for sale by photographers such as Marcel Gautherot, Otto Stupakoff and Maureen Bisilliat, among others.
Non-limited editions of digital prints – copies of the artists’ originals – are priced upwards of R$320 (40cm x 50cm). Those from limited series are very expensive – between R$9,000 and R$12,000 – but there’s no charge for appreciating them right there in the museum store. If you’re strolling along Avenida Paulista, the IMS has another store in the Conjunto Nacional, an intimate space with affordable stationery options.
