Who knew, as the shiny compact disc became more and more ubiquitous through the ’90s, that vinyl’s days would be anything but numbered? 

Here in São Paulo, the black discs, or bolachões (big biscuits) to use one affectionate nickname, are garnering growing ranks of record lovers. And it’s not just DJs. Record shops are alive and kicking across the city, if you know where to look. 

But if you’re looking to start or expand a collection, then the Feira de Discos is as good a place as any. The record fair, created by Marcio Custódio and his downtown record shop Locomotiva Discos, will bring dozens of collectors from across the country together under one roof, this time at the Baixo Augusta club Beco 203.

A word to the wise: bring cash, as most vendors won’t take cards.
