Perfectly placed in a quiet corner of Pinheiros, just far enough from the chaos and noise of the bustling shopping street Rua Teodoro Sampaio on one side, and the astronomical prices of Vila Madalena on the other, Aguzzo is an Italian eatery that’s sophisticated, stylish and, well, – aguzzo (shrewd), as the Italians would say.
The owner, the discreet and patient Osmânio Rezende, learnt much of his trade as a manager in the Fasano group of five-star hotels and restaurants. He opened Aguzzo – a place as discerning as its owner – back in 2006, with a firm focus on the quality of the food, and on training up his small band of friendly, helpful waiters.
Expect to dine alongside demanding former Fasano clients, who love this anonymous corner of the city but who won’t settle for anything less than the best food.
Don’t miss the gnocchi with butter, sage and Parmesan (R$54), a beautifully simple dish which has won awards in the local press. The fettuccine with lamb ragoût, seasoned with port and fig (R$56), is another excellent pasta dish. For the meat course, do as those in the know do and order the oxtail with watercress, served with creamy polenta (R$59). You won’t find it on the menu, but it’s a firm favourite nonetheless.
