Set among the identikit kiosks and restaurants overlooking the Lagoa, Palaphita Kitch is an oasis of strangeness among the neighbourhood's otherwise rather pedestrian nightlife. There are no plastic chairs or beer-sponsored parasols here, instead, the open-air bar is scattered with spacious sofas and benches, small stools and massive coffee tables, all made from Amazonian wood (and all for sale). The food is nothing special but the frozen caiprinhas while expensive are the perfect accompaniment to a languid sunset. Try the red berry version (R$22) while gazing across the Lagoa towards Christ the Redeemer and Pedra da Gávea for a typically magic carioca moment with a twist.
