Morumbi is home to São Paulo Football Club (SPFC), and also hosts the state championship games, known as clássicos. The stadium’s official name is Estádio Cícero Pompeu de Toledo, and it is the largest in the city with a capacity of 80,000. It was designed by the famed modernist architect João Batista Vilanova Artigas, with the inaugural match taking place in 1960.
The lower tiers offer cheaper tickets and general seating, which means you will be standing shoulder-to-shoulder among the faithful, but with a limited view of the field. The middle tier has the most expensive tickets, and provides a numbered seat or access to private boxes, as well as the best views.
The expansive open-air arquibancada (stadium seats) up top may lack the civility of the middle tier, but wins hands down for having the best, and most interactive, atmosphere.
