This former residence of the Marquess of Santos (for all of two years) was transformed into a museum dedicated to the memory of the reign of Emperor Dom Pedro I. The building's neoclassical design has been preserved but, much like the neighbourhood surrounding it, is in need of a little TLC. Indeed, it is the building itself that forms much of the museum's attraction, along with some beautiful furnishings and decorative pieces that form the majority of the permanent collection.
