Anyone familiar with the 1994 movie The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert will be well acquainted with the story of a trio of drag queens that leave Sydney to cruise through the outback in the titular bus, en route to perform in the middle of the Australian desert, confronting their own issues and prejudice on the way. The dialogue in this musical version at Teatro Bradesco might be in Portuguese, but only four out of the 22 were translated from English to Portuguese. But strewth, what non-Portuguese speakers might miss in humour will be more than made up for in the fabulous scale and campness of the production, with 200 wigs, 500 costumes, 23 tons of sets and an eight-ton bus with 30,000 LED lights.
