Mass movement: Cycling groups

Explore the city on two wheels - improving your fitness too.

For such a fast and furious car loving city there are a surprising number of cycling groups dotted around, some with the focus on fitness, others more social and some with a twist of political action - reclaiming the streets. Certainly your fitness will improve as you explore the city, so subscribe to the maxim saftey in numbers, don you best lycra, your helmet and you're off. Don't forget to explore the dedicated cycling trails at Parque Villa-Lobos or Parque Ibirapuera either. 

Bicicletada

Join the São Paulo version of the direct-action street event known worldwide as Critical Mass, for a gentle roll around the city on the last Friday of every month. Read more about Bicicletada.

Clube dos Amigos da Bike – CAB

This Itaim-based group gets together twice a week. Join the beginners or the advanced group, depending on your fitness level - or start with the beginners and aim to move up as your fitness increases. Read more about Clube dos Amigos da Bike.

Night Bikers

If seeing the city is one of your priorities this group is the one for you. The meeting point is always on the same street and always at the same time of 8.45pm, but the routes vary from week to week. Read more about Night Bikers.

Pedalinas

This all-woman cycling group, in it for the exercise and the autonomy of biking it, encompass all levels from beginners to pros. They meet on Saturday afternoons, and have recently started a night ride too. Read more about Pedalinas.

Saia na noite (Get out at night/skirts at night)

Joined the beginners group for this women-only night ride, or for the brave, foolist or fit try riding with the experienced gals, but be warned there are hills. Read more about Saia na noite

SP Gay Bikers

Join Brazil’s first gay cycling group, which decides on routes there and then, depending on what went before - they meet on a Sunday morning. Read more about SP Gay Bikers.

Instituto Parada Vital (CLOSED)

If you don’t have a bike, worry not. São Paulo has a bike rental scheme running at 15 metrô stations, and 8 car parks across the city. So rent and ride. Read more about Instituto Parada Vital.
