This weekly fair, officially known as the Feira de Arte, Artesanato e Cultura da Liberdade, has been going since 1975, and remains one of São Paulo’s best loved Sunday passeios. Its 240 stalls mostly compete for your stomach, with a vast range of Japanese and Chinese fast-food treats on offer at a reasonable price. Jewellery, bonsai trees, aquarium fish and bamboo kitchen utensils are merely secondary. Melona ‘creamsicles’ – a curious and delicious South Korean ice-cream phenomenon – have become synonymous with Liberdade, and are available in most grocery stores and some restaurants.
