Since its opening in August 1995, on the birthday of the Canadian pianist and all-time great Oscar Peterson (1925-2007), All of Jazz remains one of the city's oldest jazz bars. With photos of Miles Davis, Billie Holiday and Chet Baker gracing the walls of the pub, and a record store full of jazz classics, bossa nova, DVDs and books on jazz, it certainly tries to pay tribute to and cover all aspects of the genre. The reverence even makes it on to the menu, with snacks like the Bill Evans (hunks of parmesan cheese) and the Sarah Vaughan (a canapé of salmon carpaccio with sun-dried tomatoes).
But despite paying homage to the traditionally revered figures and the old-school sounds from jazz's past, the club's booking schedule still manages to leave room for new groups and budding artists from Mondays to Thursdays, a contrast from its more experienced performers at the weekend.
