Designed by Paulo Mendes da Rocha with landscaping by Burle Marx, the MUBE building is well worth a visit if you're interested in architecture. Made mainly of concrete and iron (a Mendes da Rocha signature), with exhibition halls below street level, the building is impressive inside and out, although if that brand of austere, detached surroundings isn't quite your thing, you may find it a bit glum.

On the weekend, a market enlivens the upper level, though it might interfere with the architectural experience for purists, who are better off coming during the week.
