One of the rising stars of a new wave of Brazilian female rappers – Lurdez da Luz – will perform at Cine Joia to launch the video for her single 'Levante'. After singing with the group Mamelo Sound System, the MC launched her solo career with the imaginatively named EP Lurdez da Luz.

As well as being a talented performer, da Luz's lyrics make for interesting listening (if you speak Portuguese, naturally) for their insight into life in the downtown São Paulo neighbourhood where she grew up, Luz. Watch the video below for her single 'Andei' where she wanders through downtown São Paulo.
