The community centre in Andaraí has held a historic place in the black consciousness in Rio since its inception in 1951. From those early protest days, Clube Renascença has undergone something of a revival and now is home to the Monday night Samba do Trabalhador (Workers' samba). As well as regular community events such as cub scouts, Clube Renascença hosts a plethora of musical and cultural events well worth the trip into the suburbs.
